- For Linguaskill in-centre testing, it is the responsibility of the Centre Manager to ensure all test room computers have the Secure Browser installed and ready to use.
- For Linguaskill remote the candidate must download the Secure Browser ahead of their test.
- For Cambridge English Skills Tests the Secure Browser is optional.
Downloading the Talview Secure Browser
To do this, please use the link below and note the instructions and system requirements:
https://pages.talview.com/securebrowser/
Please note that Talview provide a download option for Windows and for Mac devices.
It is the responsibility of the test day invigilators to ensure each computer has the Secure Browser opened and the Metrica login page is ready for candidates.
Full details of this can be found in the relevant Test Day Instructions.
For Linguaskill and Linguaskill Business candidates will be unable to take a test unless the Secure Browser has been installed and is open on the day of the test.
Configuring MAC OS Browser Permissions
To ensure the Secure Browser runs smoothly and efficiently follow the links below for important information for MAC OS users:
Diagnostic Check
Once installed you can launch the Secure Browser and test for any warning or prohibited applications before the actual test.
The diagnostic check cannot be run when using the redirection URL to Metrica.
During diagnostics, any prohibited applications will be closed automatically. If an application cannot be closed, the test taker will see a message along with the diagnostics completion status to close the application manually.
Updating the Talview Secure Browser
The Secure Browser will be updated regularly. When this happens you will see the below screen when opening the Secure Browser on each computer or laptop.
Click on the ‘Click here to UPDATE’ button, as shown in the above screenshot. This will start the download of the update. The progress will show in the download history as a pop up.
Once the download is complete you can click on the above, which will initiate the full download of the update. A progress bar will show as below.
Once complete, the Secure Browser landing page will show as below.
To log in to the Metrica home page you can type in this url: https://pages.talview.com/securebrowser/
Alternatively, you can close the Secure Browser and copy this URL directly into an open browser, which will take you directly to the Metrica home page:
https://pages.talview.com/securebrowser/?redirect_url=https://www.metritests.com/metrica/
Restricted applications
When one or several restricted applications are detected, the secure browser system will immediately attempt to close the restricted application(s). If this is successful, no warning message or pop-up will appear, allowing the candidate to continue the test seamlessly.
If the system is unable to close the restricted application(s) automatically the system will not allow the candidate to continue in the test player. A warning message will display, and the candidate will see instructions to help them close the restricted application(s) manually via the task manager.
Once the restricted application(s) have been closed, the candidate can click the “Resume Test” button. The system will automatically re-scan to ensure all previously detected restricted applications have been closed.
If all restricted applications are closed and no new ones are detected, the system will allow the candidate to proceed with the test.
